Verena Kuni (in: "Kunstbulletin" 10/97)

..."Pulps" are a series of gleaming aluminum ingots the front sides of which are adorned by quotations of banal clichés such as can be found in the horoscope columns of the gutter press. Here, again, the manifest banal qualities of the original material are both emphasized and undermined. While the letters molded into the light metal is initially nothing more then a reproduction of pure superficiality, the marks of fingers that are visible in the cast metal attest to the artist's personal signature and thus to the precious properties of each individual item. In this way, Rappenecker succeeds in finding that substratum of the sublime within the reflection of beautiful appearance while also highlighting that point of no return, where pulp fiction becomes transformed into art.
